The joy of casino table games

The casino offers a wide array of gaming options. From the quick, instant fun of Slots, to the thrilling game of chance that is Roulette. But for many, it’s the casino’s table games that provide the most entertainment – games where cards are involved.

All these games have their unique characteristics, rules and strategies. Some are quick and easy to get the hang of, while others require more time and effort. Either way, they are all great fun to play and can be richly rewarding if you can master their art. Let’s take a look at a few of the most famous and popular table games.

Blackjack

A casino classic, Blackjack is one of the most recognisable card games. Also known as Twenty-One, the aim of the game is to beat the dealer in one of three different ways: getting a total score of 21 from the first two cards dealt to you, getting a total score higher than the dealer’s without exceeding 21, or allowing the dealer to go ‘bust’ by drawing additional cards until their total exceeds 21.

Blackjack is a simple game to get the hang of, but it can be given some extra spice with the introduction of side bets. The fun of the game comes from getting one over on the dealer, and with very small margins often deciding the outcome of a hand, the game has the power to thrill and excite.

Online Blackjack has become very popular in recent times, allowing gamers to enjoy the game from the comfort of their own home. When you play Blackjack online for real money, you get to create that authentic casino atmosphere wherever you’re playing.

Poker

Poker is another hugely popular table game. Although there are many variants of Poker, the basic aim of the game is to place bets based on the combination of cards you have in your hand. Combinations are ranked based on their rarity, from a simple High Card all the way up to a Royal Flush.

This famous card game is very rewarding once you get the hang of it, and psychology plays a large part as you try and work out whether your fellow players are bluffing or not. In a casino, there are various rules and etiquette to follow when playing Poker, but once you get accustomed to this then the Poker room may well become your first stop when visiting a brick-and-mortar establishment.

The sheer scale of Poker’s popularity is demonstrated in the World Series of Poker, a collection of Poker tournaments held each year in Las Vegas. There are over 70 events, with several variants of the game played, and the prize money is huge.

Baccarat

Made famous by James Bond, Baccarat is a card game which compares the value of the player’s hand with that of the ‘banker’. There are three possible outcomes: the player has the higher score, the banker has the higher score, or the hand is tied. Popular variants of the game include Punto Banco, Chemin de Fer and Baccarat Banque.

Although perhaps not as well-known as Poker or Blackjack, Baccarat is another fun and simple table game that has a big entertainment factor. The game was popularised by author Ian Fleming in his debut James Bond novel Casino Royale. In the book, Bond must play a high-stakes game of Baccarat against terrorist financier Le Chiffre.

Thankfully, the stakes are unlikely to be as high at your nearest brick-and-mortar casino, so why not have a go at Baccarat if you’re interested in discovering a new casino passion.
