Animal Dreams explores a vibrant world where the animality of humans plays within a world of beasts. Suzanne Unrein produces gestural lines and swabs of color, creating and erasing, to form bonds and break connections between carnal forms.
Energized with expressive brushstrokes, the paintings are as much about the explorations and limits of paint as they are about humans and their connections to their animal selves and fellow beasts.
Expressing a theme of the increasing separation of humans from their rooted nature due to advances in technology, these works play in a prelapsarian time of innocence, including unease and an underlying violence.
The exhibition will run February 15, to June 15, 2018.
The gallery is located at GROUPE NYC 198 Bowery in New York City.
