SPRING/BREAK #Art Show 2015 @SpringBreakShow #ArmoryArtsWeek #NYC

SPRING/BREAK Art Show, New York City’s curator driven art fair, will return for its fourth installment in the spring of 2015 during Armory ArtsWeek. The fair will run concurrent with The Armory Show from March 3rd through 8th, 2015. With its commitment to appropriating historic and culturally relevant non-traditional exhibition space at the fore, the initiative will this year inhabit the upper floors of the Skylight at Moynihan Station space at 307 W 31st Street.

FINAL.PRESS_special_invitation_S-B_2015 Skylight at Moynihan Station is in the infamous McKim, Mead & White designed James A. Farley Post Office Building. More than 80 curators will host unique, museum-quality projects in the old offices of the former Post Office Building—spaces unseen by the public for more than 30 years—with exhibitions conceived around this year’s central curatorial theme, TRANSACTION.

“The environment within which artworks are displayed inherently impacts their meaning,” says SPRING/BREAK co-director Andrew Gori. “With the scarcity of private New York City space available for this exchange with contemporary art, we are profoundly grateful to have this landmark as an ideal meeting place between aesthetic past and present,” says fellow co-director Ambre Kelly, “and to have both state and private initiatives supporting the exchange.” According to both, TRANSACTION will showcase implicit and underlying exchange throughout—technological, fiscal, emotional, ideological, and formal—through artworks of emerging, mid-career, and established contemporary artists. All works will be for sale—except any Special Exhibitions indicating otherwise—and offer a unique portrait of salable contemporary artists’ works, worldwide. By offering a “break” from the spring trade show-style environment, SPRING/BREAK Art Show aims to occupy the art fair model with a suggestion of exhibition focus in the fore.
