Singer and Songwriter, Solange released the video for her new single “Losing You” , the same time the single became available digitally worldwide via Terrible Records. Shot in Cape Town, South Africa this past August by director Melina Matsoukas, Solange explains the story behind the video:
“When Melina and I decided to film “Losing You” in South Africa, we really didn’t have a real firm concept in place. It was sort of a grab a camera and let’s go moment. I knew I wanted to capture a couple things: the vibe of our friendship and all of the crazy escapades we’ve gotten ourselves into all over the world (the two have been good friends since she directed Solange’s “I Decided” video in 2008 ) and the abstract and elegant Le Sape society (Society for the Advancement of People of Elegance) formed in The Congo which was documented by Daniele Tamagni in his “Gentleman of Bacongo” book. We called Daniele to guide us, (who photographed the pictures attached), and some of my friends from New York came down to Cape Town and we all had a very damn good time.”
The Devonté Hynes (aka Blood Orange) produced track will also be available on 12″ vinyl November 6, through Terrible Records.
Solange and Devonté Hynes met spring of 2010. “There was an instant, musical chemistry”, says Solange. After becoming good friends, and frequent collaborators (“Flying Overseas” for Theophilus London in 2010, Rewards’ “Equal Dreams”), Devonté and Solange created “Losing You”, the latest release on Terrible Records and mixed by Ariel Rechtshaid with additional mixing by Terrible’s own Chris Taylor.
