Selma The Movie @SelmaMovie #MarchOn

Activist, Legend, Icon, just a few of the names used to describe Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his quest for equality, but what the film Selma does is so much more. Based on the Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches of 1965, this historical drama also sheds light on Dr. King the man. Directed by Ava DuVernay, and starring David Oyelowo, this touching story reminds us of the struggle for freedom from social injustice. Through the eyes of DuVernay, we see a vulnerable side to King that has rarely been spoken of. “I wanted to show people there was so much more to Dr. King besides the four words I Have A Dream” says the Golden Globe nominee.

With the current state of unrest within this country, it is hard to believe the legendary protest was merely fifty years ago. When asked why the film is of such importance Executive Producer and co-star Oprah Winfrey states “A movie like this is necessary because if you don’t know where you come from, you can’t know where you’re going.”
