MSG Presents “Air in the Square”

The first ever “Air in the Square” ASA Triples BMX and skateboarding competition took place in New York City this week. This free event launched the beginning of Madison Square Garden’s decision to host extreme sports, which will be known as MSG Action Sports. Hosted in Times Square, the public was able to witness 20 of the world’s finest in BMX and skateboarding go head-to-head on the monster 195-foot MegaRamp, which included a 25’ high roll-in ramp, two 25’ wide jumps and the final ramp with a 14’ high quarter pipe. The BMX pros included Ryan Nyquist, Daniel Dhers, Mike Spinner, Brett Banasiewicz, Steve McCann, Zach Warden, Austin Coleman, Pat Casey, Vince Byron, James Foster and Colton Satterfield with Colton Satterfield ultimately becoming the day’s champion.

The second segment of the event was the skateboarding competition, where the nine pros were able to showcase their skills one by one and the audience was given the chance to determine the winner. The skateboarders included Bob Burnquist, Pierre-Luc Gagnon (PLG), Andy Macdonald, Lincoln Ueda, Adam Taylor, New York’s very own Elliot Sloan, Mitchie Brusco, Jett Eaton and Jagger Eaton. Did I mention that Brusco and the Eatons are half the age and size of the rest of the pros? Well, that didn’t stop the juniors from stealing the show. The audience sent Burnquist, Macdonald and 14-year-old Mitchie Brusco to the finals, where Brusco was claimed the winner.

Following this event will be The Quicksilver Pro New York, the first ASP World Tour Pro Surf Competition that will be held in Long Beach, NY set for September 1 – 15, 2011 set to broadcast on MSG Networks and Fuse TV.

If you missed the live event, don’t flip out… the entire competition will broadcast on Fox Sports Network on Friday, July 22 at 5:00 p.m. EST.
