Irina Vitjaz is making her triumphant return to the fashion capital of the Western Hemisphere, and the greatest city on this entire pale blue dot: New York City. New York Fashion Week is the home to the fashion industry’s most talented members, both nationally and internationally, and this upcoming Fall/Winter season is set to blow last season out of the water.
On February 15th at Skylight in the heart of New York City, Irina Vitjaz has put together a show that perfectly encapsulates her style and techniques, but she had one caveat in mind while crafting this second collection: she aims to one up everything from her Spring Summer New York Fashion Week showcase. And Irina isn’t the only one making a return this Fashion Week, the fashion guru and business maverick Resk ‘Que is continuing his streak of producing Irina’s North American shows.
Vitjaz, who is an internationally renowned fashion designer from Austria, is returning with the Council of Aspiring American Fashion Designers (CAAFD), an organization dedicated to promoting and developing international talent in the fashion industry.
With her previous September 2016 Spring Summer New York Fashion Week, Vitjaz brought her designs to the United States for the very first time, which means she will need to try even harder to impress with her second collection. Her previous show was a blow out success, with standing room only in the venue.
Her designs were one of a kind, marked by sheer fabrics and silky, airy skirts and dresses. Vitjaz kept things balanced with simple monochrome designs with varying patterns, including bold polka dots and subtle, shadowy variations reminiscent of leaves or billowing smoke. Shades used were composed of silver, ivory, black, greys, and whites, with an occasional pop of pink or lilac.
Prior to making herself a fashion icon, Vitjaz spent most of her life in Austria. International recognition came when her designs featured at MQ Vienna Fashion Week, which led her career to the catwalk in New York.
The designer began her work in fashion at a young age. She collected fabric with an aim to create a cosmopolitan look. Cities around the world inspire her designs, and Vitjaz’s work has gained celebrity notice as well as accolades at the runway. Opera singer and close friend Anna Netrebko, Mira Sorvino, Lilly Becker, Agnes Husslein and Renate Danler are all names that have worn Vitjaz designs.
This upcoming Fall/Winter New York Fashion Week marks the second chance that New York City has the privilege to witness Irina’s designs, and they are sure to be one of the most memorable sights this Fashion Week.
