How to Stay Entertained on a Long Train Journey

Getting on a long train journey, whether for work or pleasure, can be pretty tedious. There are internet hotspots where it just stops working depending on where you are in the journey, so passing the time by don scrolling just isn’t as likely to happen as you’d imagine it could! Those looking for something to do and who have found themselves at a loss will need a way to keep themselves entertained, but you really don’t need the internet to help you.
There are so many options for entertainment and whether you are looking to sit down to a nice word search or you want to actually break out a jigsaw puzzle, there are some effective things that you can do to keep your mind entertained while you travel. Let’s take a look at some of those things below:
- Watch a new movie. You may not have internet the entire way, but before you go on your trip you can download movies on Netflix or other streaming channels. Depending on your trip length, you could even line up movies to fit the entire length of the trip such as a trilogy from Lord of the Rings. If you download before you go, you won’t have to worry about your data or wi-fi connection, either.
- Plug in the music. Putting on some music is a great way to sit back and relax, watching the world go by outside the window. Music positively affects your health, mood and productivity, and it can help you to reduce stress and relax. When you’re riding the train and being gently lulled, you will feel relaxed and happy as you go. If music isn’t your thing, you could always listen to a podcast. It’s a great way to catch up on some of your favorite episodes.
- Read a book. Depending on the length of the journey, you could crack the spine of a new book when you sit down and finish it by the time you get off the train. There are so many books to choose from, and most large train stations will have bookstores where you can pick up something to entertain you. You can read a novel that offers diverse selections of topics, or you can even choose to go with a graphic novel. No matter what you do, pick a book that is going to interest you.
- Socialise. Yes, you’re on a train, but that doesn’t mean you can’t socialise with other people. There will always be other people on the train with you, and they may be as bored as you are. So if you’re not shy and you’re pretty extroverted, ask a stranger if you can sit with them. You can then strike up a conversation about things that you enjoy. Discuss things that you like, whether it’s a film, a TV show, a book, or an album. Everybody has a favorite thing they like to do.
- Use a streaming service. You might be on the train, but that doesn’t mean you can’t access your favorite cable TV providers and their streaming services. These allow you to watch pretty much any entertainment you want, whether you want to binge on episodes of Breaking Bad or watch the latest sports on your device.
A train journey doesn’t have to be boring, you just need to know how to keep yourself entertained.
