On October 5, 2017, YRB attended the launch of apArt Private Gallery’s first Solo Art Exhibition by Brazilian artist Marcello Serpa at a private location in New York City.
Brazilian artist and Advertising Mogul Marcello Serpa exhibited 15 acrylics on canvas pieces with nearly half being sold before the exhibition opening.
The exhibition included a captivating 45-minute acoustic performance by Latin Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Maria Gadú and special guest Opera singer Anneke Joy.
apArt Private Gallery has been a distinguished leader in exhibiting the works of emerging artists in Brazil and Colombia and have now added New York as part of their cultural hub by introducing the works of Marcello Serpa, a man who has been highly awarded in the Advertising Industry but unknown in the art industry until being introduced by apArt private Gallery.
Marcello was the former partner and president AlmapBBDO, one of the largest Brazilian advertising agencies and is responsible for the first Grand Prix of the Festival of Cannes in printed media of the country, with the campaign for the Diet Guaraná in 1993. He has several Lions at Cannes, Clio Awards, CCSP, and Fiap, as well as being the first Latin to preside at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000 and is the youngest president in history.
Guests enjoyed live paintings throughout the evening by Alex Korolkovas and Sal D’Angelo who provided samples of miniature turpentine bottles.
“I grew up smelling the oils of turpentine, creating paintings while I watched my grandfather, an artist from Pernambuco, Brazil, who had a very colorful soul.” States Marcello Serpa.
The evening concluded with a performance by Opera singer Anneke Joy who mesmerized guests with her interpretation of Ave Maria.

ABOUT MARCELLO SERPA
Marcello Serpa was born in 1962 in São Paulo, Brazil, but grew up in Rio de Janeiro. He was baptized by his grandfather’s paintbrushes anointed with turpentine throughout his childhood. The painting that took him to Design and the Design to the Advertising” After winning a number of awards as a Creative Director in advertising, in 2015 he decided that it was time to return to brushes and canvas. After all, it was his soul as a painter that determined his paths and choices. Marcello is one of the rare cases in which an artist did not become plastic. Because he was an advertiser, he was able to use his artistic talent in his career within advertising. Serpa has been an artist since his birth, a painter since the womb, and a human being in essence. His first individual exhibition will be called “TEREBINTINA” (Turpentine).
ABOUT MARIA GADÚ
Singer-songwriter Maria Gadú released her third career album in May 2015. In Guelã, Maria Gadú transcends expectations bringing innovative sounds. Tracks like “obloco” and “tecnopapiro” shows Maria Gadú’s ability in always surprising, overflowing musicality and lyricism. The album was nominated for the Latin Grammy in the category “Best Album of Brazilian Popular Music.” In June 2015, the artist released in São Paulo her new tour “Guelã”. The tour has passed through the main capitals of South America, Europe, Africa and will arrive in the USA in 2017.
