Event Recap: Malena Belafonte’s Boudoir, A Night of Fashion, Theater, and Spectacle in New York City

On December 18, 2024, Malena Belafonte’s Boudoir transformed Sony Hall in New York city into a stunning world of fashion, theater, and performance, leaving a sold-out audience in awe.

Directed, produced, and choreographed by Malena Belafonte, this one-night-only production seamlessly blended runway, music, and immersive storytelling into an extraordinary evening that pushed creative boundaries.

The event was a true family affair for the Belafontes, with David Belafonte serving as associate producer, Sarafina Belafonte as assistant choreographer, and Amadeus Belafonte delivering a heartfelt vocal performance. Sarafina, the youngest granddaughter of the legendary Harry Belafonte, also premiered her original single Wandering Eye, carrying forward her family’s storied legacy of artistry and cultural influence.

Co-choreographer Sarah Kaplan, a prodigious talent at just 19 years old, brought dynamic energy to the show, while ballroom choreographer Krisi Dalipi added precision and elegance to the production’s breathtaking performances. The runway featured a dazzling array of couture designs from Heike NY, Aforieke, Hermione Elma, and collections curated by Style by Rahel, with contributions from Warlock JP, The Confessional Showroom, John Ashford, Mieux Swimwear, and John Ash Alive Shoes. These cutting-edge creations provided the perfect backdrop for a night of unforgettable performances.

Among the evening’s standout moments was the mischievously comedic “Mischief” chapter, which saw a Femme Fatale playfully using designer bags to shield herself while attempting to seduce her assistant. This segment culminated in Belafonte and Dalipi inviting two audience members into the Boudoir for a cheeky, crowd-pleasing finale.

The night also marked the highly anticipated debut of Sarafina Belafonte’s original single, “Wandering Eye,” which dropped immediately after her live performance. Adding to the evening’s emotional depth, Malena Belafonte and Krisi Dalipi performed a sensual rumba to Adele’s “Chasing Pavements,” showcasing their newly formed partnership as Dancing with the Stars Europe alumni. The duo’s partnership premiered with four beautifully choreographed routines integrated into the show’s chapters.

A deeply moving tribute honored the late designer Corey Woods, a cherished collaborator and close friend of Malena, who passed away in June. The tribute began with Woods’ voiceover echoing through Sony Hall, followed by a video montage of their past collaborations.

His final Yeroc collection was then presented, accompanied by an emotional rendition of “I Will Cover You (Reprise)” by Amadeus Belafonte, as the full cast took to the runway in support of Woods’ family, who were in attendance.

The evening’s performances were further elevated by the artistry of Pearls Daily, whose 007-themed burlesque captivated the audience with elegance and allure. Remarkably, Daily performed while four months pregnant, delivering a show that was as daring as it was unforgettable.

The star-studded cast of performers included Amadeus Belafonte, Sarafina Belafonte, Giada Mangino, Flor Massey, Ashley Carley, Carmen Catlin, Casidy Chan, Celia Costa, Sarah Kaplan, Malena Belafonte, Krisi Dalipi, Pearls Daily, and Hannah Akussa Richardson of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

The unforgettable night concluded with an electrifying afterparty that lasted until 2am, leaving attendees buzzing with inspiration and admiration for Belafonte’s bold vision.
