On September 10, 2019 , Ogilvy Black Diaspora Professional Network and YRB Magazine hosted a private reception for the exhibition ALONE TOGETHER by artist Danny Simmons at the George Billis Gallery in New York City.
The Alone Together exhibition, curated by Robin King, T. Bankole and Carla Ricevuto, is about breaking down the walls we put around ourselves and the boxes we put others in.
The Black Diaspora Professional Network represents an extension of Ogilvy‘s Diversity & Inclusion strategy and the night celebrated American Artists and their personal vision.
Author David Stone was in attendance and said this about the exhibit:
“Nothing’s simple about Simmons’s artwork, although it’s easy to enjoy. But the longer you look, the more the action, the shifting motions and rhythms play out.
The man has a lot to say.”
Guests were treated to passed African hors d’oeuvres that included Kelewele (Spicy Plantains), Beef and chicken Suya and Moi moi catered by Barbara’s Food Creations by Chef Barbara Naadjie.
Mixologist BarChemistry created a menu of specialty cocktails:
The Requiem for a Headhunter, Alone Together and The Deep Desire all made with Shinju Japanese Whiskey.
Miolo Brazilian rosé along with a special treat, Cote Or a champagne with edible 24k gold flakes was also served, while a soundtrack of Fela Kuti‘s Underground Spiritual Game played throughout the evening.
