On October 3rd, 2018, YRB attended the Ascent Conference, a 2-day curated tech event bringing together 2000+ Founders, Venture Capitalists, and Startups to Pier 36 in New York City.
The event included keynotes, panels, roundtable discussions, and fireside chats on a cluster of invaluable topics, from Growth Hacking, Raising Money, Metrics VC’s Care About, Female Founders and How Far [They] Still Have To Go, Blockchain, AI/Machine Learning and Fashion of the Future.
Speakers included Ryan Howard, MLB All Star and Venture Capitalist at SeventySix Capital, who drew analogies between a winning Major League Baseball team and a winning Startup team and stated
“To win you have to have a good team of people that are aligned with the things that will make you, your team, and your business better.”
Bonin Bough, Marketing Guru and creator some of the first marketing programs across Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Paramount Films, ABC, NBC, and Fox, gave an energetic speech on the power of text messaging in connecting people. Mignon Clyburn, Former FCC Commissioner, discussed Net Neutrality and why she’s a strong advocate for a competitive marketplace and closing the digital divide.
Over 200 Startups across verticals including FinTech, FoodTech, FashTech, AI/Machine Learning, Social, and e-Commerce competed in a Pitch Competition where the winner, Perksy, a next-gen rewards-based consumer insights platform, took home the prize of $10,000 in credits to Oracle Cloud products and entry into Oracle Global Startup Ecosystem’s startup program.
Other highlights included My Bag Check, a personal bag pickup and delivery service startup, founded by Micah B. Lewis.
Queen of Raw, an e-Commerce marketplace for sourcing and selling excess fabric around the world, Green Stop, a company providing app enabled self-service Cannabis dispensary kiosks. Each content-rich day was concluded by networking after parties, and pub crawls.
