Foo Fighters frontman and music industry veteran Dave Grohl announced that he’ll be directing and producing Sound City, a documentary focusing on the history of the infamous California recording studio of the same name. Grohl was inspired to create the film after purchasing the studio’s Neve 8028 recording console, which has recorded everyone from Neil Young, to Metallica, to Nirvana’s breakthrough Nevermind album, which Grohl played drums on. Sound City will celebrate the storied reputation of the studio, as well as discuss the human element of music in an age where records are made largely on computers.
