CCS Bard Hessel Museum of Art Presents If you lived here, you’d be home by now
“If you lived here, you’d be home by now” is an exhibition which will allow patrons of the museum to view artworks from the vantage point of historically important furniture and seating arrangements. The exhibition, co curated by Josiah Mcelheny, Tom Eccles and Lynne Cooke, was conceived as a compliment to the “Blinky Palermo: Retrospective 1964-1977,” which is currently on display in the CCS Bard Galleries and at Dia: Beacon. Marieluise Hessel’s love of contemporary art started in the 60s, in Munich, with the work of Palermo and a number of the pieces used in the exhibition are from her private collection. Rather than using furniture merely as a way of setting a tone for the various period rooms patrons are welcome to immerse themselves in the exhibit, sitting on the luxurious furniture as the view the art on display. The exhibition is aiming to give patrons the feeling of being in a collector’s private home, personalizing the viewing experience of the museum. The museum’s curators have even gone as far as reconstructing the architecture to reflect a series of domestic settings. The exhibition will be on view June 25 through December 16, 2011.
