4 Underrated U.S. States Worth Visiting

You don’t need us to tell you that the U.S. is a fantastic country to explore. After all, there aren’t too many countries that can offer the sheer range of experiences that the United States provides. From visiting world-class cities to hiking through some of the world’s most beautiful natural scenery, there’s always something special to see and do.

Everyone knows about California, New York, and Florida, which are among the three most visited states in the U.S. There are, however, plenty of other states that are worth visiting, some of which can be considered ‘underrated’ — that is to say, they’re not as widely visited as they should be.

If you’re looking for a great getaway with fewer crowds than you’ll find in the most-visited states, then keep the options we’ve outlined below in mind.

New Hampshire

Maybe it’s because it’s near New York, or because it’s generally a “quieter” state than elsewhere in the country, but New Hampshire often seems to bypass people’s radars when they’re thinking of where to visit. And we think that’s wrong, on the simple basis that New Hampshire has so much going for it. There’s a whole bunch of nature areas just waiting to be explored, the people are extremely friendly, and there are even 19th-century scenic railway rides you can take. It’s a state unlike any other, and we’re all the luckier for it.

Ohio

The Midwest in general seems to be a little underrated by travelers. There’s so much to do in this part of the country! And Ohio might just be the most underrated. Here you’ll find national parks (Cuyahoga Valley National Park), great theme parks (Cedar Point), outstanding food, and a local population that’s extremely passionate about its sports teams (you must visit a game when in Cleveland). There are plenty of extended stay hotels Ohio visitors can choose from, too, ensuring that travelers can find accommodation that offers home comforts. With a great base, you’ll be happy to stick around Ohio for a while and see everything that it has to offer.

Alaska

It wouldn’t be right to say that Alaska is underrated exactly. It’s more that most people don’t make the effort to travel there. After all, it’s a pretty intimidating place to plan to visit, especially when compared with Miami or somewhere that’s very much set up for an easy traveling experience.

But it’s worthwhile pushing through to see Alaska firsthand. There are thousands of rivers and lakes, the country’s highest mountains, exceptionally beautiful days, and much more. It’s the adventure of a lifetime

North Dakota

People overlook North Dakota because there’s virtually no one there. Given its size, you’d think there’d be more than 780,000 people living there! This vast state is an amazing place to explore. From Theodore Roosevelt National Park to Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park and beyond, North Dakota offers a side of the U.S. that you won’t find elsewhere. Rent a car, and go see it for yourself.
